Dear Friends
Greetings from the All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organizations (AIFUCTO) and Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers' Union (PCCTU).

You will be happy to know that the 29th Academic Conference of the AIFUCTO will be held at Chandigarh from November 14-16, 2014.
We cordially invite delegates and observers from the affiliated organizations of the AIFUCTO to participate in this Conference.
The AIFUCTO Conferences are an occasion for the teachers from all over the country to deliberate upon the activities of the organisation, to analyse the educational scene in the country and in the world. It is crucial for the teachers to participate in the emerging educational scenario. The theme of the Conference is 'Quality in Higher Education – Issues and Challenges.’
The Conference would discuss many important issues before us and we request you to attend this conference to make your valuable contribution to set the path of higher education in the right direction. A special feature of this conference will be the focus on the role of women teachers, who are in a vast majority in most educational institutions now, and that of the students in higher education.
With the new government in the centre, new thinking and directions are likely to emerge during the coming months. Our contribution in the days of reflection at the conference will be helpful in giving the right perspective to higher education in India. There are extremely important issues before us and the contribution of the AIFUCTO will be immense. The AIFUCTO, which is in the vanguard of the teachers' movement, has a significant role to play and your whole-hearted participation will help in deciding our future course of action.
About Chandigarh
Chandigarh is known as the ‘City Beautiful’ and a visit to the city will be memorable for most people for various reasons: the proximity to Himalayas, the beautiful Sukhna Lake, the unique creation of Nek Chand - the Rock Garden, and the largest Rose Garden in Asia.
The city was planned by the famous French architect Le Corbusier. Picturesquely located at the foothills of Shivaliks, it is known as one of the best experiments in urban planning and modern architecture in the twentieth century India.
It is the best-planned city in India, with architecture which is world-renowned, and a quality of life, which is unparalleled. As the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, it is a prestigious city and the face of modern India.
Punjab, the granary of India, is known for its rich cultural heritage and folk dances like bhangra and giddha. The term Punjab comprises two words: panj meaning five and aab meaning water, thus the land of five rivers.
Millions of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world visit the Golden Temple, Amritsar every year and pay their tribute to the land of the Gurus.
Shimla, the queen of hills, is only four hours drive from Chandigarh, if you would like to visit Himalayas.
